Royal weddings don’t happen every day. On May 19, the world turned its attention to Windsor, UK, to witness the nuptials of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, but ATL Flight Attendant Jacqueline Gardner decided to head to England to see it in person.
For Jacqueline, seeing history unfold required flexibility, persistence — and a warm coat.
What was your destination, and why did you choose it?
London, England, UK. To witness the excitement around the marriage of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and see the carriage ride of the couple after the wedding through the streets of Windsor. A moment in history to see!
What route did you take to get there?
ATL-LHR. Don’t be shy on ZED-ing! We bought a ZED on Virgin Atlantic from ATL to LHR after all the Delta flights filled up. It only cost $7.60, and the flight was awesome!
Where did you stay while you were there?
Airport Guest House in Slough. It was only 110 pounds for two nights for two people. It was a cute little family hotel I found on Booking.com — My go-to website for all my places to stay internationally.
What was your favorite memory or activity?
We stayed out all night in 45 degree weather — from 7:00 pm the night before until the wedding was over. It was tough, but worth it! We had the perfect spot!
My favorite memory was when my travel partner Latonya and I saw Prince William and Prince Harry in the afternoon coming from Windsor Castle after the wedding rehearsal. Prince William must be like 6’5”…He was so tall! Also, witnessing Prince Harry and Megan ride-by after the wedding.
