A 10-minute drive from downtown Cincinnati, Ohio, and located right across the Kentucky border is Endeavor’s CVG maintenance base. The two-story hangar, capable of servicing seven to nine aircraft each night, is a go-to base for Endeavor’s maintenance needs. Whether completing scheduled maintenance or handling a long-term special visit line (SVL), CVG can do it all.
Zack Hawley, CVG Base Manager, has been in the aviation industry since 2002. He leads an experienced 3-shift maintenance base of 105 technicians and is always ready to welcome new individuals.
“CVG is like a family environment; we’re understanding of one another, and when things happen in our personal lives outside of work, we’re here for them.” Zack said. “When new technicians come here, their ambition is infectious. It’s a great feeling to train newer techs and keep them on the right track.”
CVG offers a lot of support for its technicians. Long-time regional technicians help provide a strong foundation to individuals newer to the operation.
“We have a lot of experienced guys that can lend a helping hand,” Zack said. “Many of our technicians have been working on CRJs since the 1990s, so they’ve seen a lot of the same tasks that we see today. They really help guide our newer people.”
A maintenance base with a hangar provides different capabilities compared to a line-only base. However, there is a special kind of personality that works best at CVG.
“Confidence is key to a technician’s success here,” Zack said. “They should be inquisitive, motivated, and have a can-do attitude.”
Endeavor’s maintenance bases function slightly differently in their work and capabilities. Some are line maintenance only; others take on modifications or special projects in addition to their maintenance tasks. These are a few capabilities that make Cincinnati unique.
SVL AND SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE
The CVG base can accomplish line checks and routine maintenance along with A– and B–checks.
Like other Endeavor hangar locations, CVG will perform line maintenance at the gates. The team handles ‘wake ups’ and ‘meet & greets’, preparing aircraft for the first flight of the day along with responding to gate calls as needed.
CVG is frequently tasked with operating SVLs, making and completing updates to Endeavor’s fleet, in addition to scheduled maintenance.
AVIONICS AND SHEET METAL
Endeavor technicians can take courses and develop to become sheet metal specialists or avionics technicians. Continuously training and developing AMTs allows the base to be ready for anything the operation needs, 24/7, 365 days a year.
REPRESENTING ITS PEOPLE
The flags on the wall represent where the CVG technicians hail from. The flags hanging from the ceiling showcase the branches of the military in which members of CVG have served. In addition to the branches of the military, there is an Honor and Remember flag – this was brought in by a technician whose son passed away while serving in the military.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH
The base actively visits Cincinnati State to attend events for the Aviation Maintenance Technology program. A supervisor from CVG also teaches at the school full time. To give back to the local community, the base will sponsor a family or two during the holiday season.
