This year, 13 interns were welcomed to Endeavor Air’s headquarters in Minneapolis, Minn., to support various areas of our operation for 10 weeks. Throughout the internship program, students and recent graduates gained a behind-the-scenes look into the aviation industry, participated in professional development events, team building activities, and even enjoyed pass travel benefits on Delta Air Lines.
To celebrate National Intern Day, we sat down with a few of our interns and asked them about their experience with our Premier Regional Airline.
What surprised you most about Endeavor and the aviation industry?

“What surprised me the most about working in the aviation industry was how interconnected every role in the airline is. No matter what department you are in, everyone is working together and collaborating to keep the operation moving smoothly.
At Endeavor, what I was genuinely impressed by was their strong sense of community and culture. It’s a place where people know who you are and value you. You are truly a name and not just a number here.”
-Christina Creighton, Tech Ops Planning Intern, University of St. Thomas
As a student working towards being a commercial pilot, how did this experience broaden your perspective on the in-office work of flight operations?

“My focus has been primed on absorbing systems knowledge on the ground and perfecting maneuvers in the air. I learned about the meticulous work that goes into crafting the policies and procedures our pilots use on a day-to-day basis, broadening my understanding of airline operations.
In addition, shadowing the Assistant Chief Pilots (ACP) in Detroit and Assistant Fleet Managers (AFM) at Endeavor’s headquarters have given me a new interest in working as a pilot who flies while providing support to my fellow pilots as well. The culmination of this summer’s opportunities has given me a greater appreciation for the entire Endeavor team that work endlessly on the ramps, in the control centers, and at headquarters to make sure our flights are successful.”
-Dominic Pham, Flight Operations Intern, University of California, Los Angeles
What was your favorite project that you worked on over the summer?

“My favorite project has been automating Endeavor’s attrition data and how we present it. Previously, the process was manual, yearly data had to be uploaded into an Excel spreadsheet to generate graphs and visuals.
Using [Endeavor’s HRIS system] Dayforce, I built dashboards that allow leaders to view attrition data on a monthly, quarterly, and yearly basis. Best of all, it’s set up to update automatically, so it will continue to provide real-time insights for years to come!”
-Quinn Scheider, HR Intern, St. John’s University
What did you learn about safety at Endeavor? And how have you helped contribute to the success of Endeavor’s safety programs?

“My time working in the safety department this summer has really helped me understand just how vast an airline safety program can be, especially coming from the University of North Dakota with a relatively small aviation safety team. It was also fascinating to see how improvements are made in small incremental nudges rather than in huge sweeping reform.
My personal contributions have primarily been inside the world of Flight Operations Quality Assurance (FOQA), working on projects related to approach procedures, taxi speeds, and engine vibes. The most exciting has been helping work on the rollout of our new aircraft sensor packages, giving us the ability to see more data off the aircraft and tackle new challenges!”
-Fiona Speirs, Safety Intern, University of North Dakota
What did you enjoy most about the professional development and events provided by Endeavor?

“Endeavor hosted several events throughout the summer focused on growing our professional image as interns. We learned how to interact with different types of people while immersing ourselves in the airline’s culture. My favorite professional development event was ‘Being the Brand’ because it allowed us to identify specific traits that we can use to intentionally build relationships and accomplish work assignments.
I also greatly enjoyed spending time with my fellow interns away from the usual work environment. We got to know each other better while sharing our own life experiences and interests. Overall, I found these events fun to participate in, but also productive and enriching.”
-Kaden Laehu, Flight Operations Training Intern, Purdue University
Where were your favorite places that you used your pass travel benefits to?

“Before I started my internship, I had made it a goal of mine to use my pass travel benefits every single weekend! Having the chance to travel anywhere for free is an opportunity that does not come around often, so I didn’t want to waste it.
I was lucky enough to travel to: Chicago, IL; Nashville, TN; Washington D.C.; Kansas City, MO; Boston, MA; Jacksonville, FL; New York City, NY; and more. My favorite destination by far was Copenhagen, Denmark! I believe Denmark is an underrated but beautiful place that anyone interested should put on their list of places to visit.”
-Olivia Solis, Airport Customer Service Intern, Minnesota State University – Mankato
